RE: Hitch conversions, good or bad?

Has anyone ever seen with there own eyes a fith-wheel to gooseneck failure or have you only heard of one?
I saw a beautiful Heartland Landmark (top of the line) fifth wheel at Fairview State Park in July. Guy had been towing it to various jobs because he was involved in catastropic claims for an insurance company. Had 1/2" gap on the vertical seams at the from the top of the cap to the bottom of the cap and rain had been entering the rig. When he hooked up to move to another site at the park, the gap opened a full 1".
I don't blame the Lamdmark, but it was a shame to see such a rig mistreated that way.
He had exceeded his 14 day stay and was told to move out. They agreed to let him move to another site. In his anger, he slammed into the rig to hook up and yanked it out of it's spot. Guy's like that don't deserve to own a rig.
The above rant has nothing to do with the OP but thought I would post what I saw.

RE: Your Fuel/Oil comments - please post here

We can thank the Dept. of Energy for finally helping to solve our energy crisis:
The Department of Energy was instituted 8-04-1977 TO LESSEN
OUR DEPENDENCE ON FOREIGN OIL. AND NOW IT'S 2008, 31 YEARS LATER, AND THE BUDGET FOR THIS NECESSARY DEPARTMENT IS AT $24.2 BILLION A YEAR, THEY HAVE 16,000 FEDERAL EMPLOYEES, AND APPROXIMATELY 100,000
CONTRACT EMPLOYEES AND LOOK AT THE JOB THEY HAVE DONE!:B
Diesel was $2.59 at El Campo, Texas yesterday. Paid $2.85 today for Shell in Rockport down from $2.99 yesterday.

RE: Rest Areas in East Texas and Louisiana

Louisiana Tourist Bureau on I-10 east, just inside the state line was flooded during Ike and was not open 2 weeks ago when we came through. If you are headed east, exit and go under the I-10 bridge at the state line and go back to the Texas Bureau.

RE: Sunday Night Football

O.K., I'll bite. You are a little early with your post. You usually wait until after the fact to show your hatred.:S
Another impressive win by the Giants.:R Typical of your hatred-troll posts, Charlie.
Giants football has nothing to do with tonight's Sunday Dallas-Redskins game.
My hatred? Show ONE example where I have showed a hatred post. You started this post and have contiually ranted against Romo and Dallas. 'Boy's 14-Skins 10. I suppose you will now get this post locked.
I was giving the Giant's their due. I recognize a good team when I see it.

RE: new shocks

Can't help you as mine came with OEM shocks that were shot within a few thousand miles. Changed them to Monroes. I do believe they make a difference.
There are others here that have done so and will chime in. You just need brackets and the correct length shocks. Check to see if brackets are currently welded to your frame and installed with your shackles. I have seen them on some new rigs but without shocks installed. If so, that would make it a lot easier.
Welcome home brother,

RE: Best portable waste tanks?

Check PPL and J.C. Whitney. They often have the 32 gallon on sale for $99. Sometimes with free shipping. Check their site weekly if you have time to wait.

RE: I20 Dallas to Atlanta in Late November

Try "Texascampgrouds.com". You can also go to Passport America website even if you are not a member and find their site. Also try "RVparkreviews" for a list of parks that have been reviewed. You can also access the campground websites.

RE: 2008 Holiday Rambler Savoy 29RKLX

Never seen a Savoy with aluminum.
I have not had a leak of any kind but my sealing strip has no screws under a removable strip. It is solid with no seams from the front, horizontally down the sides, around the back and back to the front. It has sealant on top and bottom. Don't know how it is held on but it appears it may be crimped around a lip of some kind.

RE: Backing up a fifth wheel

Best tip I learned on this site was a from a gentleman that said, "as you see your rig begin to turn, then slowly start to straighten the truck up." While not an expert, I have slowly gotten better and slowly straightening the truck up as I back up, keeps me from overcorrecting.

RE: Roofing nailers

Rig shank nails, while providing better grip in the wood, adds nothing to keeping the shingles down. When lifted or blown off by wind, the nail heads tear through.
I also prefer hand nailed shingles for the same reason as others have said. I would also not shingle a roof because of the difficulty on the old body.
I just had my roof replaced after Gustav and went with a 35 year architecural and a brand considered the best asphalt shingle on the market. I thought that I had remembered higher end shingles were good for 100-100 mph winds. Found out that nearly all shingles are only rated for 70 mph.

RE: Ding on credit report?

I don't trust any of those who contact me.
I would call them to check things out.
One of the banks I do business with notified all their customers that someone was making fake calls. Everyone in town was recieving phone calls saying that they needed to verify some information or their bank debit card would be frozen. They then proceeded to ask you to punch "1" to begin the process of verification. At that point is where I hung up. FIL was also recieving the same calls and he does not have an account with that bank.

RE: Nick Saban

Joe, I was wondering when you would come along and bring the Cowboy's into a Nick Sabin thread.:S
How do you see them victims of and paying for their "rotten" success? All three are highly successful and very rich people.
You have plagarized Miles Away in the post above you. You are now penalized and can not post anything bad about the Cowboys for 6 months.:p

RE: I-10 Through Houston

Spent 4 days at Highlands and came through Houston on I-10 to 59 to Fulton Monday of last week. I have driven this route several times. I have also driven straight through to San Antonio.
I drive 50-55 between 10:00 and 11:00 and have yet to have a problem.

RE: Step light

There is a camper in this park that has a solar spot light directed towards his step. Charges during the day and does a good job of lighting his steps at night.

RE: Nick Saban

Lawrence, Most of us are not bashing Sabin. Like you, we are calling it as we see it.
No doubt about it. A great coach and probably one of the greatest motivators and recruiters of all times.
We are grateful for what he did but still a little resentful for the way he left.
If Petrino or Spurrier were the topic of the post, you would be getting the same comments about them.
My son graduated from LSU in 1998, took him to Florida after graduation to enroll in their doctorial program. Florida had just come off their national championship season. Upon meeting my son's new professor, we starteed talking about Spurrier.
The professor told us that a friend and his young son saw Spurrier at a local mall. The kid excitedly ran up to Spurrier and asked for an autograph. The boy's father told Spurrier how much he admired him. Spurrier responded with the word "so", turned around and walked off. No autograph.

RE: FOLLOW-UP to Price to replace all fluids @ 30K

My dealer quoted "around $300.00" for a transmission oil change. I did it myself and bought the Chevy transmission oil and filter from the dealer at approx. $8.00/quart. Don't remember the filter price.

RE: My how fast things change!

Travelnutz is right in his response to Joe. Not to mention govt. subsidies and inability for Americans to penetrate the Japanese market with many of our goods. Another example of the 1 way free trade policies.
There will come a time when Toyota and Honda will have similar legacies and Hyundai and Kia will be the top dogs in the market.

RE: Condition of I-10 in Louisiana

Construction east of Lake Charles for 10 miles. I will not pull my rig headed west in that area. I take exit 44, south to Hwy 90 and follow it back to I-10. This will take you west of the construction. East bound is new and open. Construction west of Orange but no problems getting through. The rest of I-10 in La. is no better or no worse than any other road I have travelled. Take I-12 between Baton Rouge and Slidell unless you are going to New Orleans.
Traffic is heavy in Baton Rouge and I-12 to Hammond between 8:00 A.M. and 9:30 and 4:00 P.M. to 5:30 P.M. Lot's of idiots that wait until the last minute to merge. Coming east off the Mississppi River bridge into Baton Rouge is the ONLY section of I-10 in the country that merges to 1 lane. Going up, east bound, be in the right hand lane. It will become three lanes ,do not move over. As you come down the bridge, the 2 lanes will merge left to 1. You will be in the corect lane. Watch for people wanting to merge into your lane as you make the curve while exiting. They are the idiots.
I travelled I-12 from Slidell to B.R. in August and it is a good road. I travel I-10 to Texas by car every 2 weeks and with rig every couple of months. There is a rough 2 mile section of I-10 west of the 210 loop then becomes good asphalt.

RE: New Open Road

Haven't kept up with who has gone out of businees because I am not in the market for a new one. I did see a 1/2 dozen at an Rv show yesterday. Weren't coming down much on MSRP. Maybe because a lot of people don't know they are closed. That is something to keep in mind.
One that we looked at was all white inside with white painted cabinets. Quite a shock to see one like that for the first time.
